JALAPENO POPPERS ON THE BRAAI

I have a great love for camping. It all started in my first year of varsity when a group of my friends always went camping in Tietiesbaai on the Westcoast. In the beginning we were poor students that really roughed it. I remember hiding half underneath the car just to get some shade.. sigh… the glory days.

8 years later it’s a different story. Before we use to cram as many people into 1 vehicle as possible, now everyone takes their own car and camping has taken on a life of it’s own. So many gadgets and tools…

In the beginning food was also more of a luxury than a necessity. Lately we are trying new recipes  and really having fun with new and old dishes. Braaing, Bacon and Chili Poppers... these are a few of my favorite things, so why not combine the 3? This is how:

What you will need:

Jalapeno Chilies
Streaky Bacon
Cheddar Cheese
Mozzarella Cheese
Cream Cheese
(The amount varies depending on how any Poppers you would like to make.)

Firstly you cut the Chilies and clean out all of the pips and rinse them under some water. Then you grate the Mozzarella and the Cheddar and mix it in the Cream cheese. Stuff the chili with as much cheese as possible.

Wrap the chili in Bacon, making sure that the bacon covers anywhere cheese could escape from when it's on the grill.

Place it on the grill and braai the poppers until the bacon is crispy and the cheese is melted.

Besides the fact that we didn't have nearly enough milk to stop the burning, They turned out perfect!! I will definitely be making these again!

  1. Probably my most favourite snack in the worlds!
I have found that the hotness of the jalapeno depends on your cooking method, of which braaiing it makes for the hottest ones!, baking second, and deep frying the least amount of burn for the 3 cooking methods. Also, served with some plain yoghurt as a dip works well to tame the burn :)
