WORLD MAP FROM PAINT SAMPLES

Through the years I've had a few projects that required paint samples from the hardware store. These little card have becoming more & more over the years & I have been itching to make something out of them for a while. There are so many great ideas for what to do with paint samples all over the internet.

As I have mentioned before I have a complete obsession with maps.... I have needed a world map in my apartment for a while. I started by finding a simple outline image of the world on the internet.

I uploaded it into Block Poster. This website is incredible it has endless possibilities, if you have some time go have a look. This site takes your image you upload & enlarges it to the size you specify & then you download a pdf document in A4 pages of your image to easily print on your printer at home. You then just glue the pieces together and you have a poster the size you require.

I just used the poster as my base to work from.

I cut out each of the continents & started covering them with the paint sample cuttings, here is a time-lapse I made of me assembling Africa…

When it was all done I put it up on my wall above my couch… When making something like this you can decide if you want to use specify colors or like I did completely multi colored.

CROCHET COVERED CUSHION

Another bazaar another crochet something or the other…
This time I bought a little bag of crochet circles in all different colors not having a clue what I’m going to do with it, but it was R6, so I could afford to figure out what I’m going to do with it later.

I’m a huge fan of the rainbow colors & organizing colors in sequins ( I might be slightly OCD) so once again I started sorting them into color groups & playing around with what could be done.

I had this white pillow on my couch that I decided to doll up. Here is the end result!

DINING CHAIR UPCYCLE

Years ago I bought these 2 chairs at a flea market for R100 each. Oh what ugly mismatching little chairs they were. I then redid them by painting them white and reupholstering the seats with pieces of scrap material I had around the house.

I recently realized I want to redo them again.. it’s time! Saturday was such a miserable rainy day in Cape Town, and my amazingly talented friend Aletta & I were stuck indoors in my tiny apartment. We needed something to keep up busy and so we stated on a few diy projects. My chairs were top of the list!

I still liked the fact that the chairs were white (my weakness) but the floral prints became a bit much in my already very busy apartment. I decided to rip off the old covers and redo the seats with white fabric I had lying around.

Already it looked soooo much better, but it still needed a bit of oomph. With the pouring rain outside I needed cheering up.. Yellow was going to be the answer!! Using some masking tape to make sure I paint in a straight line I painted the top part of the 1 chair and the bottom part of the other to give a bit of variation. Loving the outcome!

TEST-TUBE VASES

Another lovely Sunday morning at the Milnerton Market and a few good finds. These old test-tubes were only 50c each. I bought 20 of them to become mini vases in my windowsill. Loving the life they bring to my flat!

BREAD TIN PLANTERS

Since I moved into my flat I’ve really been missing having a garden and a bit of green around me. A space immediately feels cheerier and healthier with a plant or two.. or three.

I bought these bread bins a while ago in Gansbaai and I’ve been itching to use them in my kitchen. After making a turn past the nearest nursery I bought myself 6 different herbs:  Rosemary, Sage, Mint, Oregano, Chives and Thyme. 3 plants perfectly fit into 1 of the bread bins  so my 6 plants had a new home on my kitchen windowsill.
